Kathmandu: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against 17 individuals, challenging the decision of the Special Court in connection with alleged financial irregularities in the Melamchi Drinking Water Supply Project.

Issuing a press statement on Sunday, the anti-graft body said the appeal targets those who were acquitted by the Special Court, including Dr Sanjaya Sharma, then Secretary at the Ministry of Water Supply.

Among those named in the appeal are Bhim Prasad Upadhyay, then Chairperson of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project, and former ministry secretaries Gajendra Kumar Thakur and Bhoj Bikram Thapa. Thapa is noted for having signed an agreement between the government and Gen-Z movement protestors.

The CIAA had originally filed a corruption case against 17 individuals and entities at the Special Court in February 2024, alleging irregularities related to the Melamchi project.
